There’s plenty of good news coming out of Vietnam at the moment. Here are a few stories making the headlines: 

Tourism soars in 2024, Vietnam poised for a record year  

The World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) latest Economic Impact Research (EIR) projects that Vietnam’s Travel & Tourism sector will inject a record đ770.8 trillion into the national economy in 2024. According to the research, the sector’s contribution to the economy will increase by 13% compared to 2019, accounting for over 7% of Vietnam’s overall GDP. Employment in the Travel & Tourism sector is expected to grow by 6%, reaching 5.96 million jobs, which is approximately one in nine jobs across the country.

Vietnam planning visa waivers to boost tourism  

Vietnam is taking significant steps to bolster its tourism industry by proposing visa waivers for several countries. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has instructed the Ministries of Public Security and Foreign Affairs to explore this initiative, which aims to simplify visa procedures and attract more international tourists. This move is part of Vietnam’s broader strategy to remain competitive amid the dynamic tourism landscape in Southeast Asia.

HCM City’s annual international travel expo confirmed for September  

The 18th International Travel Expo HCM City (ITE HCMC) will be held from September 5 to 7, according to the city Department of Tourism. Its scale is set to surpass that of previous editions with more than 500 local and foreign players set to participate, including tourism promotion and travel agencies, accommodation providers, airlines, and transport firms. The event, which will have the theme “Responsible Travel, Creating Future,” will showcase innovative tourism products and services that meet the diverse needs of the global travel market.

ASEAN’s common visa can give Vietnam an edge in attracting international tourists  

The Southeast Asia Common Visa is a common visa initiative currently being proposed by Thailand that at the present involves six ASEAN countries: Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, and Việt Nam. The benefits of such an agreement could be substantial, influencing Việt Nam’s economy, tourism industry, and diplomatic relationships not only within ASEAN but also with countries beyond the region.
