Destination digest: Vietnam news in brief
There’s plenty of good news coming out of Vietnam at the moment. Here are a few stories making the headlines:
Vietnam’s tourism industry booming
Vietnam‘s tourism industry is on track for a full recovery thanks to a surge in European visitors and a favourable visa policy, according to a top official. Nguyen Trung Khanh, director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, reported strong growth from European markets during a recent National Assembly session. Countries like Spain, Germany, the UK, and France are all nearing pre-pandemic tourist arrival levels. This positive trend is attributed to a visa exemption programme launched in August 2023.

Vietnam targets 18 million international arrivals in 2024
The Việt Nam National Administration of Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) reports that in January 2024, the number of international visitors to Việt Nam exceeded 1.5 million, a 10.3 per cent increase compared to the previous month and a remarkable 73.6 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2023. This surge is the highest since Việt Nam reopened for tourism in March 2022, equivalent to the figure of January 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. It is indeed an encouraging signal for Việt Nam’s tourism industry, providing motivation and confidence to achieve the goal of welcoming 17-18 million international visitors in 2024.
