After being grounded for almost nine months due to Covid-19, Thai Airways will resume flights between Bangkok and Chiang Mai as well as Bangkok and Phuket from Christmas Day onwards. A wide range of international routes are set to follow in the New Year. The news comes as a timely gift to the tourism sector, which is ending the year in relatively good shape thanks to new visas, new arrivals and now, new flights in the air.
Starting 25th December 2020, Thai Airways will resume operations on three weekly flights from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, as well as three services from the capital to Phuket. The news is the latest in a series of positive developments for Thailand’s aviation sector, with Thai Lion Air, Thai Air Asia, Nok Air, Thai Smile, VietJet Air and Bangkok Airways all returning to the skies in recent months and slowly adding to their domestic flight schedules.
To help welcome back international tourists to Thailand, Thai Airways will also open a range of flight networks. Starting from 1st January, the airline will open weekly services to Frankfurt, London, Copenhagen, Sydney, Seoul, Manila, Taipei and Osaka. In addition, flights from Tokyo to Bangkok will be available three times a week, while flights from Hong Kong to Bangkok will be available every day.
The continued expansion of domestic and international flight networks is a positive indicator of Thailand’s tourism revival. With restrictions being lifted, new visas being offered and new flights provided to transport returning travellers, the Kingdom’s tourism sector looks set to leave the worries of 2020 behind and begin the New Year in good health.
