To celebrate the end of 2022 and look ahead to 2023, Bangkok will host a schedule of more than 20 spectacular events throughout December, in a campaign reportedly worth 200 million baht (US$5.7 million).
Organised by ICONSIAM, a mixed-use development on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, the celebrations will incorporate numerous tourism and leisure businesses and provide visitors with an unforgettable end to the year.
The theme of the festivities has been confirmed as “ ICONSIAM Magical Enchanted Celebration” and is sure to be a spellbinding experience for all who attend. Already on the bill is a uniquely eco-friendly fireworks display, which will light up the Chao Phraya River. The events are also expected to illuminate Thailand’s tourism sector.
“Now that tourism has become the key factor of the economic recovery, ICONSIAM has formed a strategic partnership under ‘Collaboration to Win’ strategy with involved stakeholders that also aligns with the government’s tourism recovery plan,” explained Mr. Supoj Chaiwatsirikul, who is the Managing Director of ICONSIAM Company Limited.
Quoted in the Bangkok Post, he added that “our festive celebration ‘ICONSIAM Magical Enchanted Celebration’ is sharing happiness to Thais and welcoming visitors from across the globe; with over 200 million baht spent, we are presenting over 20 grand events and marketing campaigns all through December 2022.”
From now until 5 January, visitors to Bangkok will be able to enjoy festive celebrations at the city’s Christmas tree lighting festival. Powered by clean solar energy, the tree at the centre of the ICONSIAM Bangkok Illumination project will be a hub for sustainable energy technology and a place for gift-giving, with special promotions and prizes on offer.
There will also be various entertainments and performances over the coming week, including a multimedia water show, a film festival and a Disney concert featuring the stuidio’s most beloved characters. The centrepiece of the events will be the 31 December countdown, held on New Year’s Eve on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. This will be an integrated fireworks and light show, incorporating digital effects and innovative AR immersion technology.
Around 130,000 tourists are expected to attend the schedule of events every day between now and the end of the month, adding up to over 2 million attendees in total. As Thailand’s tourism recovery continues at pace, the celebrations are a fitting way to celebrate progress in 2022 and look ahead to a year of new possibilities in 2023.
