The Indonesian tourism industry, and in particular the inbound sector, continues to experience growth and momentum. This can be seen in the number of tourist arrivals during the period January to May 2017 – an increase of 20%, or 5.3 million foreign tourists, according to the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics. In the first half of 2017, Panorama Destination (PDES) managed to register a growth in income to the tune of Rp 213 billion – an increase of 10% compared to the same period last year.
In detail, Asia Pacific continues to be a driving force for world tourism, with growth of 6.6% equivalent to 88.5 million arrivals from outside the region in the first quarter of 2017. This growth in tourism is expected to have a positive impact on foreign tourist arrivals in the third quarter of 2017, raising the number of inbound arrivals to Indonesia and other tropical countries such as Thailand.
“We will increase the operational capacity of the company by opening our Thailand branch in the second half of 2017. Thailand was visited by 32 million people in 2016, and is a destination that’s popular with tourists; therefore we wanted to develop our presence as a regional tour operator in Thailandâ€, stated Renato Domini, Director and CEO of Panorama Destination.
PDES is currently preparing the operational office in Thailand, and is expecting to move in during the second half of 2017. In order to enhance performance, PDES has budgeted capital expenditure of Rp 14.2 billion in 2017, including the opening of the branch to support revenue growth. In regards to this operation, PDES also plans to acquire a Singapore-based company as an extension of the regional hub. In the first half of 2017 the number of foreign tourists handled has also increased from 65 thousand to 87 thousand people. To improve its service, PDES will add small and medium-sized vehicles to its fleet in order to meet the demands of smaller and more exclusive groups.
COMPANY PERFORMANCE
During the first half of 2017, PDES has registered a 34.7% increase in the number of tourists, equivalent to 22,657 people. This has been influenced by the Wonderful Indonesia branding campaign, and the performance of the company in the open market with regards to operational capacity. The company has targeted a total 180 thousand foreign tourists handled in 2017, and estimates a 27% increase in revenue during the same period compared to 2016.
COMPANY’S CORPORATE ACTIONS
According to the general meeting of shareholders, PDES has distributed dividends in July 2017 to shareholders to a total of Rp 25.2 billion. This step has been taken by the company to give confidence to the market and make the company an attractive option for further investment.
