What to Expect

Located about 150 kilometres North of Kuala Lumpur, the Cameron Highlands provide a refreshingly cooler climate thanks to their elevation (average temperatures are still a warm 25 degrees celcius). The region is named after William Cameron, a British explorer who discovered the location during an expedition in 1885. From that moment onward, the Cameron Highlands have grown in popularity as a destination for travelers the world over. The favourable climate makes this region ideally suited to cultivating tea, and the Cameron Highlands remain Malaysia's largest tea-growing location.
